The USS Agincourt
The U.S.S. Agincourt is the Star Trek Simulation Forum’s (STSF) first “future-reality” simulation. The ship was launched in the year 2397, twenty years after the U.S.S. Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant. In those twenty years, there have been some important developments. You can find greater detail on these in the History section of this website, but we'll cover the highlights here.
First, the Agincourt is the product of a new initiative by Starfleet to replace and improve the fleet after the losses suffered during the Dominion War and the most recent Borg attack. Ships with high defensive and offensive capabilities became a production priority. The Agincourt is the ninth Prometheus-class vessel to be produced by this initiative. As part of the same overall restructuring, the Agincourt also carries a Marine battalion, headed by the Executive Officer.
Second, in 2395 the three largest Alpha Quadrant powers -- the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire -- signed the 2395 Treaty of Versailles, a non-aggression pact greater in scope than the Khitomer Accords or the Treaty of Algernon. The 2395 Treaty of Versailles represents the first major overture towards long-lasting peace and cooperation between the three powers. As part of the Treaty, the Romulan Neutral Zone has been abolished.
Third, the Agincourt was deeply involved with treacherous events that threatened the new peace in 2397. Mysterious attacks left all three powers on edge, and the Treaty anniversary celebrations were ruined by a terrorist attack. In the summer of 2397, the Agincourt got a look at the enemy responsible for the strange attacks, and followed them through a mysterious vortex, only to find itself light-years from home, in the Perseus Arm of the galaxy.
As for the ship itself? The Agincourt is a Prometheus-class vessel, able to separate into three sections, each capable of combat maneuvers, in what is known as Multi-Vector Assault Mode (MVAM). When in MVAM, each section of the ship is commanded by a senior officer (usually the Captain, Executive Officer, and Second Officer), although in extreme circumstances automatic systems can be engaged from the main bridge.
